Childhood Education
(1-6) M.S. (39-42 Credits)
This Master of Science degree prepares students to develop and teach innovative curricula for children in grades 1 through 6. Teachers trained in this area are in high demand. This program is appropriate for students who have a bachelorfs degree but no undergraduate preparation in education, including those who have earned provisional teaching certification. Courses cover topics such as the American school system environment, student behavior, curriculum development, educational goals and objectives, contemporary philosophies and cultural diversity.
Internship Option for Childhood Education
The internship option is available for students in the Childhood Education graduate program of study. The internship will be a 6-credit course that will include supervision by both the University and the school district. Both parties will determine the specifics of the internship collaboratively. The internship is a one-semester course. The chairperson of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction and, where appropriate, the Director of the program must approve any student who wishes to participate in the Internship Program.
The University will recommend the student in the internship program for New York State initial certification after completion of the entire program.
